According to a report out of Pennsylvania, fallout from federal and state investigations into wrongdoing at Penn National Race Course continued on Wednesday (August 12), as a trainer was indicted on wire fraud and conspiracy charges.
Pennlive.com has reported that 49-year-old Thoroughbred conditioner Murray L. Rojas of Grantville is the trainer in question.
According to the article, the indictment claims that Rojas conspired with veterinarians to administer anti-inflammatory medication and hormones to her horse within the 24-hour window prior to race time, which is a violation of the rules of racing.
The report has cited U.S. Attorney Peter Smith as saying that fake documentation was submitted to the Pennsylvania Horse Racing Commission in order to conceal the administration of the substances.
Earlier this spring, four veterinarians pleaded guilty to their roles in the illegal doping of racehorses.
The charges and guilty pleas from the veterinarians came after a probe by the Federal Bureau of Investigations into wrongdoing at Penn National.
