Report: FBI Conducting Racing Probe

Published: November 21, 2013 04:01 pm EST

It has been reported that the Federal Bureau of Investigations is conducting a probe into the horse racing industry in one of racing's most prosperous jurisdictions.

The news come courtesy of an article by The Philadelphia Inquirer, which cites a pair of sources – an unnamed state official and an unnamed racetrack board member.

According to the report, the unnamed sources have said that the scope of the investigation into Pennsylvania racing is not clear. The sources have also said that they are not sure whether the FBI is looking into a single race and a single track, or many races and many tracks.

The Philadelphia Inquirer report has cited a Penn National Gaming board member as saying that he had been interviewed by FBI agents in regard to the probe.

The article states that an FBI spokeswoman did not confirm or deny that an investigation is taking place.

News of the probe comes days after a bill co-sponsored by a pair of Pennsylvania State Senators was introduced. The bill would see Pennsylvania’s two horse racing commissions dissolved and regulatory oversight of the industry transferred over to the state’s gaming control board.
