Jodie Cullen stretched her lead in the Woodbine Mohawk Park trainers’ standings to four as three of her pupils reached the winner’s circle on Monday, Sept. 7.
Angels Amoung Us ($6) led off the 10-race program with an off-the-pace score in the $15,000 dash for Prospect Series starters. Jason Ryan summoned the filly off the helmet from third-over straightening for home, and the daughter of Shadow Play-Sing Like An Angel motored to victory in 1:53.3. She is now 10-for-25 this season for owner-breeders Jodie, Ron and Travis Cullen of Dundas, Ont. and Keith Hannah of Waskada, Man.
Hot Wash ($4.90) bottomed out the field with Travis Cullen aboard to win the $22,000 third-race non-winners-of-one event in 1:54. The rookie daughter of Cattlewash-Hot Gossip swept to the lead on the backstretch and peeled away from the rest down the lane, then cruised to a maiden win in her eighth career start for owner Robert Jones of Stony Plain, Alta.
Outrun The Odds ($18.20) outsprinted his foes down the lane, closing down the outside from fifth in the stretch for a 1:52.2 score in the ninth-race $15,000 Prospect Starters pace. The three-year-old All Bets Off-Snowbird colt, also driven by Travis Cullen and owned by Jones, dashed to a new career mark as he tallied his seventh win in 25 starts in his debut season.
Jodie Cullen raised her tally at Mohawk this season to 102, putting her four ahead of second-placed Kyle Fellows. She also leads Canada in wins with 195 from 1,079 starts.
