It has been reported that the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission is expected to this afternoon approve an application from Kentucky Downs to install ‘instant racing’ terminals at its facility
.
According to an article by The Lexington Herald-Leader, Kentucky Downs President and Co-owner Corey Johnsen was quoted as saying “We’re close to getting started with something that’s going to help Kentucky racing.”
The report also cites Johnsen as saying that the track’s application would see the track operate 200 of the instant racing machines, which would operate for 16 hours each weekday and 20 hours on Fridays and Saturdays.
The slots-like instant racing machines allow gamblers to wager on previously-run or 'historical' horse races. A group called the Kentucky Family Foundation has been fighting the implementation of the machines, claiming that it is an expansion of gambling in the state.
