It was a solid Sunday at the Rideau Carleton Raceway office for trainer Gary McDonald who watched his students rack up three wins over the course of the 15-race program
.
McDonald started the night holding a share of the tenth-place in the trainers’ race at Rideau Carleton Raceway, but he moved up the standings with the three-win performance.
My Old Friend John got the ball rolling for McDonald thanks to his 1:54.3 score in Race 7. The five-year-old son of Cambest held on to win by a neck for driver Stephane Gendron.
John MacDonald was an accomplice in McDonald’s victory with Libertys Best in Race 11. The four-year-old Cammibest gelding took over shortly past the quarter pole and proceeded to lay down the rest of the speed en route to a half-length tally in 1:56. That same duo notched another narrow victory in Race 13 when Moneyhaha turned a two-hole trip into a 1:56.1 score by three-quarters of a length.
McDonald, who earlier this year went past the $3-million mark in lifetime earnings, enjoyed a career season in 2010. Last year saw his barn hit the winner’s circle 76 times while raking in $405,870 in purse earnings.
