This week's Rewind column is the familiar Picture Parade. This time Robert Smith has gathered up a group of older photos from the 1970's and 1980's. Not so long ago from a historical perspective, but also not exactly 'yesterday.'
As stated above this week's collection of old photos all share the common thread of being from the 1970's and 1980's. They were taken at numerous locations and include a variety of subjects and were chosen at random. Be sure to take a good long look at them and send along your best guess if you are so inclined.
# 1 - Can you figure out who this fellow is? No points given for naming the track.
# 2 - Who do we have here? If you name the driver your job has been completed. If you see anyone else familiar please share it with the audience.
# 3 - This 1979 photo saw the winner (4) take a new lifetime record of 2:00.4 in winning the evening's feature race for a purse of $5,500. Who was the winning driver?
# 4 - This 1988 event took place at Rideau Carleton Raceway involving an OSS event. Can you identify the driver who could have made it a lot easier by looking toward the camera? (The Standardbred magazine)
# 5 - Can you identify the young lad in the driver's seat? Let's do a little add on by asking where this action was taking place? Looks like a nice afternoon crowd in the background. (The Standardbred magazine)
# 6 - This photo was taken in 1974, the first year of the OSS. A lot of young drivers were on the scene but there were still some wily veterans who knew their way to the winner's circle. Can you identify this gentleman driving No. 4? Any guesses as to who is getting up for second? (Harness Horse photo)
# 7 - The background on this photo might be of assistance in determining the driver and maybe even the groom. The year was 1982. If you can come up with the driver's name you're all set but if you know more details let us know. The groom had a rather unusual nickname. (Northeast Harness News)
# 8 - Can you put a name on this driver as he wins a Jr. Free For All at Mohawk? Let us know who you think he is. How about the crowd size in mid-April? (The Standardbred magazine)
# 9 - This is the only trackside photo in today's group. The man on the right is Moe Van Sickle from the Labatt's Company presenting the award. Can you name the man on the receiving end? What was the prize? A stained glass mirror and a cheque for $250. (The Standardbred magazine)
# 10 - Do you recognize the driver in this 1979 photo? Clue. This race was held a long way west of Ontario. (The Standardbred magazine)
Bonus Photo: Can you correctly identify these two fellows involved with a local Turf Club? (Can. Sportsman photo)

Blast From The Past
Where do you think this picture was taken by a gentleman who took his daily walk in this neighborhood and often carried his camera? My thanks to Mr. David VanDyke, who supplied this photo taken by James L. Harrison.
