The Sunday, November 24 fundraiser for four-year-old Josh Woodward was a big success according to his father, horseman Jason Woodward, who has said that he was “amazed” and “shocked” with the turnout at ‘The Venue’ in Peterborough, Ont.
Jason’s comments have come via a report by the Peterborough Examiner.
“I was amazed by the turnout of people today. I was shocked at first,” said Jason. “I have seen people I haven’t seen in a long time and others I don’t even know. It has meant a lot to us to have people here to support us. The support from the racing industry shows that we really are one big family.”
Trot Insider profiled Josh’s fight with kidney issues two weeks ago. The Toronto Star picked up on the story last Friday, as more people are looking to help the youngster, especially as the Christmas season nears.
“A group of us wanted to do something to help but never thought it would get like this,” said Julie LaRush, one of the fundraiser’s organizers. “We put our heads together and decided on this, but it got a lot bigger than we thought. So many people came out. Everyone is caring and giving in the community. It exceeded our expectations.”
The Peterborough Examiner article explains how Josh is bringing the fight to his kidney ailment. “He is tough little boy,” Jason said Sunday. “He has been through a lot and is a fighter. He got outside to see some of the Santa Claus parade. He loved it.”
The fundraiser’s organizers have also set up a special account for those wishing to make monetary donations. Contributions can be made by visiting any branch of the TD and making a deposit to: Account # 607 5481 Transit # 3431.
