The Goose Princess Tops Lexington Fourth Session

Trotting filly The Goose Princess garnered the highest bid in the fourth session of the Lexington Selected Yearling Sale on Thursday (Oct. 3) at the Fasig-Tipton Sales Pavilion in Lexington, Kentucky.

Bought for a $162,162 ($120,000 USD) bid, The Goose Princess, Hip 759, was consigned by Preferred Equine and purchased by Determination of Montreal, Que. The daughter of Muscle Mass and Golden Goose is a half sister to Golden Tricks (1:52.2 - $266,425) and Princess Lilly (1:54.2 - $271,996).

Burningforyoulove, Hip 705, was purchased for $128,378 ($95,000 USD). Preferred Equine signed the sales slip. They were also the seller. The Bar Hopping-Beltane Hanover filly is a half sister to stakes winner Beltassima ($550,447 - 1:52).

Among the top priced yearlings during the Thursday session, Over Bet and New Orleans sold back-to-back for the same price of $121,622 ($90,000 USD).

Over Bet, Hip 632, was purchased by Anthony Beaton of Waterdown, Ont., acting as agent. Consigned by agent Spring Haven Farm, the Bettors Delight colt is the third foal out of Sadayo Hanover, who is a Somebeachsomewhere sister to former world champion and millionaire Sassa Hanover.

New Orleans, Hip 633, was next out in the sales ring and went to Tommy Bo Andersson of Gotene, Sweden. The Muscle Hill-Nepentha filly is a half sister to Grand Circuit stakes winner Beads ($650,346 - 1:50.2). She was consigned by Hunterton Sales Agency.

Sharing the fifth highest price for the session were Run To The Hills and Zephyr Kemp, each yielding a $108,108 ($80,000 USD) bid.

Consigned by Preferred Equine, Hip 642 Run To The Hills was purchased by Jeffrey Courchesne of Cambridge, Ont. The colt is a son of the fastest ever standardbred and multiple award winner Bulldog Hanover, out of Somemoneysomewhere. 

Zephyr Kemp, Hip 683, was purchased by Peter Weisberg of Delray Beach, FL. Consigned by Hunterton Sales Agency, the colt is a son of Calgary Games and Southwind Adele. He is a half brother to She Rocks Kemp (1:54.3 - $257,586).

A total of 208 yearlings went through the sales ring on Thursday, yielding $7,931,081 ($5,869,000 USD) and an average bid of $38,130 ($28,216 USD). The sales were up from the 2023 sale yield of $4,973,800 USD and average of $23,913 USD. In 2023, 815 yearlings entered the sale ring as of the fourth session with $62,458,800 USD handled while this year, 771 yearlings have gone through the ring with $82,487,838 ($61,041,000 USD) grossed.

The sale will wrap up on Friday night at 7 p.m.

The Lexington Selected Yearling Sale's opening session was held on Monday evening, Sept. 30 and the daughter of Walner and 2020 Hambletonian winner Ramona Hill, Rani Hanover, caught the attention of everyone with an eye-popping price tag of $1.25 million ($925,000 USD). The bid set a record as an all-time high of a yearling filly at auction in North America. Rani Hanover was purchased by Kenneth Jacobs of Baldwinsville, New York from the Hanover Shoe Farms consignment.

The second session of the Lexington sale on Tuesday, Oct. 1 was topped by Naughty Beauty, who was purchased for $743,243 ($550,000 USD) by Andrew Harris, agent for William Pollack, of Allentown, New Jersey. Consigned by Hunterton Sales Agency, the Bettors Delight filly is the third foal out of two-time Kentucky Sires Stakes champion Beautyonthebeach, who is a Somebeachsomewhere sister to U.S. Hall of Fame inductee Tall Dark Stranger. Naughty Beauty is a full sister to Ontario Sires Stakes Gold-winning sophomore filly Blazing Belle ($237,178 - 1:49.2s) and this year's Grassroots champion two-year-old colt Crack Shot ($66,500 - 1:52s).

Trotting fillies topped by Storybook Love led the day during the third session on Wednesday, Oct. 2. Storybook Love, Hip 514, was purchased for $283,784 ($210,000 USD) by Bax Stable, acting as agent for Al Libfeld, of Campbellville, Ont. Consigned by agent Kentuckiana Farms, the Chapter Seven-Stirling Debutant filly is a half sister to Indiana stakes winners Shirley Goodness ($394,945 - 1:53s) and Simply Right ($124,351 - 1:57s).
