Naughty Beauty Tops Lexington Sale Day Two

Day two of the 2024 Lexington Selected Yearling Sale at the Fasig-Tipton Sales Pavilion in Lexington, Kentucky was held on Tuesday (Oct. 1) with Naughty Beauty yielding the highest bid for the day.

Naughty Beauty, Hip 267, was purchased for $743,243 ($550,000 USD) by Andrew Harris, agent for William Pollack, of Allentown, New Jersey. Consigned by Hunterton Sales Agency, the Bettors Delight filly is the third foal out of two-time Kentucky Sires Stakes champion Beautyonthebeach, who is a Somebeachsomewhere sister to U.S. Hall of Fame inductee Tall Dark Stranger. Naughty Beauty is a full sister to Ontario Sires Stakes Gold-winning sophomore filly Blazing Belle ($237,178 - 1:49.2s) and this year's Grassroots champion two-year-old colt Crack Shot ($66,500 - 1:52s).

Hip 201, Jennifer Palema sold for $574,324 ($425,000 USD) and was acquired by Ake Svanstedt Inc., agent for Bender Sweden, of Wrightstown, New Jersey. Consigned by Kentuckiana Farms, the filly is by Bar Hopping out of the Cantab Hall mare Sobti Hanover, a half-sister to the dam of 2016 Trotting Triple Crown winner Marion Marauder. Jennifer Palema is a full sister to the exported 2021 Yonkers Trot champion Johan Palema ($627,733 - 1:50.4).

Hip 149, Che Bella, another Bar Hopping filly, topped the half-million mark, attracting a final bid of $540,541 ($400,000 USD) from Harris, acting as agent for Pollock. Also from the Kentuckiana Farms consignment, Che Bella is the first foal out of the unraced mare New Wave, a Chapter Seven sister to 2023 Breeders Crown champion Bond.

Rambo Hanover, Hip 179, sold for $520,270 ($385,000 USD) with Ake Svanstedt Inc. placing the winning bid on the Muscle Hill-Riding High colt from the Hanover Shoe Farms consignment. He is the first foal from a dam by Walner whose family includes Grand Circuit stakes winner and new Minnesota stallion Kings County.

Aperfect Tillie, Hip 261, was among the top sellers on day two with a $486,486 ($360,000 USD) price tag, purchased by Armitage Farm of Wilmington, Delaware. Consigned by Peninsula Farm, the Googoo Gaagaa filly out of the unraced mare Asixpakfromperfect is a full sister to Aperfect Annie ($411,599 - 1:53), winner of last month's Kentucky Championship Series for two-year-old filly trotters, and a half-sibling to Grand Circuit stakes winner Aperfectyankee ($588,017 - 1:53f).

A total of 227 yearlings went through the sales ring on Tuesday for gross sales of $29,963,514 ($22,173,000 USD). The average sales price was $131,997 ($97,678 USD), a slight increase from last year's second session average of $97,247 USD.

The five-day yearling sale runs through Friday, Oct. 4. The third and fourth sessions will begin at 1 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, followed by the final 7 p.m. session on Friday.

The Lexington Selected Yearling Sale's opening session was held on Monday evening, Sept. 30 and the daughter of Walner and multiple Grand Circuit stakes winner Ramona Hill, Rani Hanover, caught the attention of everyone with an eye-popping price tag of $1.25 million ($925,000 USD). The bid set a record as an all-time high of a yearling filly at auction in North America.
