Storybook Love Tops Lexington Sale Third Session

Trotting fillies topped by Storybook Love led the day during the third session of the 2024 Lexington Selected Yearling Sale on Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 2 at the Fasig-Tipton Sales Pavilion in Lexington, Kentucky.

Storybook Love, Hip 514, was purchased for $283,784 ($210,000 USD) by Bax Stable, acting as agent for Al Libfeld, of Campbellville, Ont. Consigned by agent Kentuckiana Farms, the Chapter Seven-Stirling Debutant filly is a half sister to Indiana stakes winners Shirley Goodness ($394,945 - 1:53s) and Simply Right ($124,351 - 1:57s).

Among the day's top priced yearlings were trotting fillies Hustle N Bustle and Cork And Carry, each selling for $236,487 ($175,000 USD), from the Kentuckiana consignment.

Hustle N Bustle, Hip 449, was acquired by Dream With Me Stable of Paris, Kentucky. The Walner filly is out of Hustle Heart, a Credit Winner sister to millionaire French Wine. Hustle N Bustle is a half sibling to Grand Circuit stakes winner Fly Light ($528,591 - 1:52f).

Cork And Carry, Hip 531, was purchased by Armitage Farm of Wilmington, Delaware. The Bar Hopping-Flying Glider filly is a half sister to International Model ($62,347 - 1:55). Her unraced dam is a full sister to stakes winner Sunset Glider. A pair of trotting fillies worth $229,730 ($170,000 USD) were bought by Kemppi Stables of Delray Beach, Florida to round out the priciest purchases of the third session.

Carve, Hip 424, is sired by Captain Corey and is the first foal out of the Creatine mare Alpine. Her family includes Ontario Sires Stakes Super Final champion Miss Paris and multiple Ontario stakes winner Bella Dolce, the dam of 2022 U.S. Trotter of the Year Bella Bellini. She was consigned by Diamond Creek.

The Cantab Hall filly AJ Hall is the first foal out of the Chapter Seven stakes-winning mare Aela Jamieson. Her is dam is a full sister to 2022 Hambletonian champion Cool Papa Bell. AJ Hall sold as Hip 471 from the Preferred Equine consignment.

Session three of the sale captured $14,466,216 ($10,705,000 USD) in total revenue from 219 yearlings with an average bid of $66,055 ($48,881 USD), down from an average bid of $52,717 USD last year.

In total, the three sessions have yielded $74,556,757 ($55,172,000 USD) from the sale of 563 yearlings with an average of $132,427 ($97,996 USD), down from 2023's three session total of $58,485,000 USD.

The sale will continue on Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m. and wrap up on Friday night at 7 p.m.

The Lexington Selected Yearling Sale's opening session was held on Monday evening, Sept. 30 and the daughter of Walner and 2020 Hambletonian winner Ramona Hill, Rani Hanover, caught the attention of everyone with an eye-popping price tag of $1.25 million ($925,000 USD). The bid set a record as an all-time high of a yearling filly at auction in North America. Rani Hanover was purchased by Kenneth Jacobs of Baldwinsville, New York from the Hanover Shoe Farms consignment.

The second session of the Lexington sale on Tuesday, Oct. 1 was topped by Naughty Beauty, who was purchased for $743,243 ($550,000 USD) by Andrew Harris, agent for William Pollack, of Allentown, New Jersey. Consigned by Hunterton Sales Agency, the Bettors Delight filly is the third foal out of two-time Kentucky Sires Stakes champion Beautyonthebeach, who is a Somebeachsomewhere sister to U.S. Hall of Fame inductee Tall Dark Stranger. Naughty Beauty is a full sister to Ontario Sires Stakes Gold-winning sophomore filly Blazing Belle ($237,178 - 1:49.2s) and this year's Grassroots champion two-year-old colt Crack Shot ($66,500 - 1:52s).
