Add another name to the list of reinsmen that have recorded major career driving milestones this week. Pilot Jim Marshall, III must have gotten sick of reading the headlines for everyone else the past couple of days, so he decided to
go out and make his own press Thursday, October 27 at New Jersey's Freehold Raceway.
Up behind eight-year-old Enjoy Lavec gelding Big Sky Thunder in Race 7, Marshall got good early position from Post 2 and nestled his charge into third early.
Racing as the heavy post-time choice, the 53-year-old Marshall tipped his mount first up in the second panel. The duo was three quarters of a length off the lead at the half-mile marker and was also overland in second by a snout at the three quarters pole.
Persevering when it mattered most, the Ned Urbanski-trained Big Sky Thunder got up by a length in the final quarter and then held on for a nose victory in 2:02.2.
Big Sky Thunder's win was the 3,000th of Marshall's career.
Marshall, a resident of Jackson, NJ, enjoyed career bests in 2004 in wins (225) and money won ($1,603,553).
