Third generation horseman Lee Ibey celebrated his first career win in the sulky after a perfect gate-to-wire steer aboard his father's trotter during Kawartha Downs' Saturday night program
.
The 23-year-old son of longtime horseman Chuck Ibey guided six-year-old trotter Barberail to a 2:02.4 six length victory over the sloppy track. The Alberta native was making just his 15th career start as a driver and seventh this year. The ninth race winner returned $16 to his backers as the 7-1 fifth choice.
The victory followed up a second place effort to start the year for Barberail. The Donerail-Babes Bar gelding has picked up cheques in all five of his starts for the Ibeys since being claimed on Dec. 3 at Kawartha for $5,500.
