Despite numerous reports to the contrary, pacing stallion Cams Card Shark did not perish as a result of the floods in Australia
.
Jim Simpson, President and CEO of Hanover Shoe Farms, told Trot Insider on Thursday morning that Cams Card Shark is still in New Jersey, unscathed and ready for the 2011 breeding season.
Reports out of Australia have mistakenly confirmed Cams Card Shark among the horses that billionaire Clive Palmer lost in floods that swept through his Cold Mountain Stud Farm. Fortunately, the initial numbers of 80 lost standardbreds were erroneous and grossly misstated. Palmer told harnessracing.com that 14 horses have been confirmed as dead.
“Of the dead, 13 of them were yearlings by American stallions out of American mares we’d bought,” said Palmer. “They were all headed to the Australian Gold sales in coming weeks. At first we feared every horse at the farm died because of the flood levels, but amazingly, once we got back to check the place out on Thursday, 15 of the 16 racehorses were still alive."
