Sudbury Downs has announced that nominations to its Young Guns Pacing Series and the Heat Wave Stakes close midnight Wednesday, August 15.
The Young Guns is the longest continuously-running stakes event at the Northern Ontario oval. The specific condition is for horses five years and younger that are non-winners of three races or $40,000 (fillies and mares four races or $50,000) lifetime. Winners over $75,000 lifetime are not eligible. The conditions cut-off is as of midnight Saturday, August 4, 2012. The Young Guns is conducted in two legs and a final. The series begins on Saturday, September 1 with the purse for each division of each leg $8,500. The final on September 15 lists a purse of $25,000 added and is estimated to reach $30,000.
The Heat Wave Pacing Stakes is a conditioned claiming event. The specific condition is claiming $10,000 with allowances for non-winners of four races or $50,000 (fillies and mares five races or $60,000) lifetime as of August 11, 2012. This race is conducted in eliminations on Saturday, August 25 with the $20,000 added final the following Saturday night. The total estimated purse is $25,000.
