Horseman Wade Ross, 45, passed away on April 5 after losing his battle with colon and liver cancer
.
A family spokesperson said that the cancer from which he suffered became very aggressive after initial surgery, leading to his passing at the Anderson Cancer Center in Orlando, Florida.
Born in Methuen, Massachusetts on Oct. 28, 1966, Wade Ross was an integral part of the Walter Ross Stable for many years and was known for his excellence in horsemanship both as a driver and trainer. His father, Walter Ross Sr., said he had a gentle and effective manner in handling young horses.
“He had such a wonderful way in breaking young horses...and they responded to those ways in a very positive manner. He played an invaluable role in the success of our stable.”
His unselfish attitude gained him great respect and countless friendships throughout the industry.
Survivors include Wade’s parents, Walter Sr. and Patricia, his grandmother, Mildred Bellavance, his fiance, Kim Farmer, his brother, Walter Ross Jr. (Renee), sisters Wendy Ross Fletcher (Jeff) and Whitney Ross (Ken Jarrett), many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and his “very close friend” and canine companion, “Rookie.”

Harness Racing has truly lost a great person and one of it's best horseman. Wade (Wazee) was one of the nicest and funniest guys you would ever meet. To his great parents Wade Sr. and Pat, and Kim ( who is one of the sweetest woman I have met) my sincere condolence. I will always remember the glory days at Rosecroft with you, Kim, Jim Morand, Jim Morrill Jr, Tom Jackson, and the late Robby Rankin.
