Francis Belliveau Passes

Veteran maritime horseman Francis Belliveau of Memramcook passed away at the Dr. Georges L. Dumont university hospital center on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at the age of 49.

A long-time assistant trainer to Henry Smallwood and RG McGroup Ltd., and more recently to John Burns at Mohawk Racetrack and the Ultimate stable of Moncton. He was also the caretaker for noted maritime performers The Papermaker, BGs Eversharp, Smoke Damage and Rattlin Robbi.

Born on December 23, 1963 in Moncton, he was the son of Laurie Belliveau and Germaine Cormier. He worked at Seaside Chevrolet Oldsmobile.

Beside his parents, he is survived by his daughter, Rachel Belliveau of Dieppe; one granddaughter, Madison; his long-time companion, Lise Babineau; one brother, Donald (Jeannine) Belliveau of Dieppe and by nephew Mario of Edmonton, AB. He was predeceased by one nephew, Martin.

There will be no visitation. Funeral mass will be held at Notre Dame de Lourdes church, Memramcook East on Tuesday April 2 at 4:00 p.m. Interment will be held in Saint Thomas de Memramcook cemetery, St-Joseph.

Francis was a very talented and professional horse trainer and as a young man a major contributor to the success of our Racing stable for several years while working for the Henry Smallwood Stable. His dedication and work ethic and attention to detail enabled our stable to enjoy many lifetime memories.

Very sad news, Francis worked with the Henry Smallwood Stable when it was somewhat of a powerhouse in the region. Very talented horseman and far too young to pass. Condolences to the family.
