It has been announced that Standardbred racehorse breeder Bruce Lawrence Kearns, 81, of Wayne, Pennsylvania., passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2020.
Kearns was the founder of Forum Communications Group, Ltd. and the former publisher of ‘The Physical Therapy Forum.’ Upon retirement from publishing in 1995, he founded The Short Stop in Malvern, Pa., a purveyor of clothing for shorter men. He also authored a novel, The Resurrection of the King, a compelling ‘Elvis is alive story.’
He graduated from Lansdowne Aldan High School, attended Drexel University where he majored in mechanical engineering, and served in the U.S. Army.
Kearns was an avid skier, golfer, movie buff, and owner and breeder of Standardbreds. Among the top horses he owned was Backstreet Guy T1:54.4 ($754,573), the winner of the 1989 Peter Haughton Memorial.
He was the husband of Donna Kearns (DiIorio); stepfather to Paula (Brian) Borradaile; and grandfather to Madeline and Benjamin. He was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas; and parents, Adele (Colaiezzi) and T.H. Yardley Kearns.
A funeral service will be held on Friday (Feb. 7) at the Frank C. Videon Funeral Home, Sproul and Lawrence Roads, Broomall. Friends may call after 9:30 a.m. Services will begin at 10:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607, or Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306.
