James Webber Passes

James Edgar Webber, 79, of North East, Md., passed away on January 30 at Union Hospital, Elkton, Md.

Born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, on February 12, 1934, he was the son of the late James and Dorothy (MacLean) Webber.

Webber served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the American Legion.

He spent his life around horses, starting as a groom and moving into training. He spent many years working with standardbreds at the Pinehurst Driving and Training Club and has many friends who reside in the Pinehurst area.

James is survived by his companion and friend, Ruth E. Vincent; brother, Bill (Betty); sister, Susan Singer; daughter, Dana (Jason) Kincaid; son, Erich (Michelle); grandsons, Ethan, Danson Kincaid and Rackley Kincaid; step-grandchildren, Jesse Roland and Serena Roland; step-great-grandchildren, Ava, Alanya and Layla; and a stepdaughter, Vickie Allen. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Audrey Purvis and Ruby Coadle.

Services will be private.

I first met Jim at Sackville Downs in 1963, he was stabled in my Father's barn with Meadow Don who he brought from NY to race in the BC Cruckshanks memorial while working for "Bud Gilmour", which he won. He was also the banker for us younger guys a few years later when I was at Roosevelt Raceway. A great guy.
