George E. Davis found the
George E. Davis found the difference between harness racing before and after graduation only a matter of the time that he had to devote to it. With his father, Howard Davis, and an uncle, Harold Davis, both in the sport, George was a natural. Only a 3 year hitch with the U.S. Army has interrupted his steady upward progression.
Despite the requirements of the family stable, George found time to take part in high school activities. He lettered three times each in basketball and track, and won mile events in state tournaments in the latter. He also was a member of the school band. He drove his first race in 1959, and later that season caught his first winner, a 2:07.3 effort with Frisco Gold at Northfield Park. In 1973 he posted his initial 2:00 win, in 1:59 at Windsor, with Moonlight Victory.
