Horsepeople Lend Helping Hand

In the wake of a Nova Scotia barn fire, Ontario horsepeople are stepping up to help their Maritime peers.

The fire, which claimed the lives of 14 Standardbred racehorses on Monday (Dec. 20), took with it the entire barn and all inside it. With a GoFundMe already in place, arrangements have been made at several Ontario racetracks for horsepeople to donate equipment to the trainers impacted by the fire.

Equipment drop-off locations are in the paddocks at Woodbine Mohawk Park, Flamboro Downs and Western Fair. Jordan MacKay will be shipping any of the equipment donated to Nova Scotia on January 1. If horsepeople have any equipment they’d wish to donate to the victims of the fire, they can reach out to Marnie Bochenek at Flamboro Downs, Joanne Colville at Woodbine Mohawk Park, Tony Elliott at Western Fair or Ken Middleton, who is also accepting donations at his stable at Shamrock Training Centre.
