Trot Insider has learned that Enough Talk, the first trotter in harness racing history to break the 1:50 barrier, has passed away at the age of 22.
A two-time Dan Patch Award winner as older trotting horse of the year in both 2008 and 2010, Enough Talk compiled a record of 33-16-16 from his 100 career starts with more than $1.8 million in earnings. Seventeen of those wins came during his three- and four-year-old seasons, compiling a record of 17-6-7 from 36 outings against mostly sires stakes and open company.
Purchased by trainer Peter Kleinhans early in his five-year-old year, the son of Enjoy Lavec - Fashion Setter exploded onto the national scene with victories in the Classic Series at Dover Downs and legs of the Su Mac Lad at The Meadowlands, earning an invite to race in Europe where he finished third in the 2008 Elitloppet and second in Denmark's Copenhagen Cup.
After returning to North America, Enough Talk set a track record at Mohawk Racetrack with a 1:51.1 lifetime best performance in his Breeders Crown elim, but then lowered his mark into uncharted territory with his 1:49.3 effort in the Patriot Trot at the one-turn Colonial Downs to establish a new world record, and one that stood for nearly six years.
With subsequent wins in the Oleg Cassini Invitational at Yonkers, the American National at Balmoral and an Open at Harrah's Chester to conclude his season, Enough Talk was voted 2008 Older Trotting Horse of the Year in Dan Patch Award voting. He repeated as divisional champion in 2010 after wins in the Breeders Crown and Titan Cup topped his resume.
In May 2012, Enough Talk won his last start, a 1:54.4 score at The Big M with Ron Pierce at the controls. Enough Talk was euthanized on Wednesday, Nov. 5. According to Kleinhans, Enough Talk's ashes will be spread at The Meadowlands at a later date.
