The trip was sweet for Saulsbrook Jessie in Tuesday’s $8,500 Preferred 3 for filly and mare pacers, but the end result was even sweeter.

Saulsbrook Jessie turned a ground-saving trip into a 20-1 upset in the featured affair on the 10-race card.

Brett MacDonald left the gate hard and dropped in third with Saulsbrook Jessie while OK Jasmine worked her way to the front and sliced out an opening quarter clocked in :28.2. Tajmeallover brushed to the lead in the second quarter and she took the field to the half in :56.2.

She continued to lead the way past the three-quarter pole in 1:25.2, but she got gobbled up late by a pair of rivals including the eventual winner, Saulsbrook Jessie, who shook loose late and used a :29.3 closing panel to win by a half-length margin over OK Jasmine in 1:55. Tajmeallover was third.

Ron MacDonald trains the four-year-old daughter of Big Jim-Atlanta Girl for owner Ed Gorc of Sudbury, Ont. It was the fourth win of the season for the mare and the ninth of her career. She’s banked more than $87,000 following her Tuesday evening triumph.
