First Line Barn Fire Update

Officials with the Central Ontario Standardbred Association have provided an update in regard to the surviving harness horses affected by the December 21 First Line Training Centre barn fire that claimed the lives of five Standardbreds.

As of Tuesday, January 29, only one of the nine horses that went to the University of Guelph for treatment remains at the facility. COSA has stated that the horse is not doing so well. Two of the horses were retired to be broodmares, and the other six Standardbreds appear to be doing well.

The remainder of the stable has started back jogging and seems to be heading in the right direction. Woodbine Mohawk Park generously offered temporary stabling until further arrangements can be made.

Individuals wishing to make donations to the Mark Steacy Barn Fire are being asked to do so via an official GoFundMe page that has been set up. As of Tuesday, January 29, the amount raised via the GoFundMe account is $67,785 of the desired $100,000. To donate to the cause, click here.

Thank you for your generous donations!
