Trainer Jeff Gillis celebrated his 1,000th lifetime victory Monday evening at Mohawk Racetrack thanks to a gritty win with a first-time starter named Meetyouatmidnight.

Gillis, who was voted Canada’s Trainer of the Year in 2011, watched the son of American Ideal-Wind Storm kick off cover at the head of the lane before sprinting home in :27.4 to secure the 1:54 score for driver Jody Jamieson.

Gillis and Jamieson also teamed up to win two races later with OSS graduate Knows Nothing in 1:52.4.

The Hillsburgh, ON horseman, who has sent out such starts as Mister Herbie, Santanna Blue Chip, Federal Flex and Speed Again, has sent out 69 winners so far this season while racking up more than $1.5 million in purse earnings. His lifetime purse earnings recently surpassed $22 million.
