For A Dancer Retired

Multiple-stakes-winning filly trotter For A Dancer has been retired, owner Mitchel Skolnick of Bluestone Farms said Monday.

The three-year-old For A Dancer won 14 of 21 career races, finished no worse than third a total of 18 times, and earned $521,127. Her victories included the New York Sire Stakes championship for two-year-old filly trotters, from post eight at Saratoga Raceway, and this season’s Empire Breeders Classic at Vernon Downs with a track record performance.

“Her liver enzymes have been elevated since early July,” Skolnick said. “We had some success bringing them down only to have them spike again. It became increasingly apparent by her lackluster performances that it was time to quit.”

A daughter of Conway Hall out of the mare Fluttering Wings, For A Dancer was bred by Jacob Skolnick, trained by Joe Holloway and driven primarily by Jeff Gregory. For A Dancer finished sixth in the New York Sire Stakes final for three-year-old filly trotters on Saturday at Yonkers Raceway.

For A Dancer still holds the track record of 1:56 for two-year-old filly trotters at Vernon Downs.
