Brandon Campbell dominated at Century Mile on Friday (Sept. 22) and drove seven to victory including four from his own stable in the 11-race card.
Campbell opened up the card with a win to set the ball in motion for the rest of the night. He drove his own student, Sandras Mystery, to a gate-to-wire achievement in 1:56.3.
In the $6,300 condition pace, Sandras Mystery posted fractions in :29.3, :59.2, and 1:28.3 before crossing the wire in a 9-3/4 length romp. Big N Shiny (Philip Giesbrecht) finished second and Winniepooh (Nathan Sobey) was third.
Bred and owned by Raymond Henry, the daughter of All Bets Off-Skade earned her first career tally in six starts. She returned a $2.80 win ticket.
The Alberta resident followed up with a double for trainer Jacques Lambert.
Wiggy rode the pocket trip along the pylons through panels in :28.3, :57.3, and 1:27 before tipping in the stretch to win by 1-1/4 lengths over Miss Lucy Lu (Christopher Brown) and Drive Away (David Kelly). Lambert co-owns Wiggy (All Bets Off-Wiggle It J) with Jim Wilson and Larry Hanson as she picked up her fourth seasonal victory and fifth career tally. She paid $3.40 to win.
Igot Socks sat mid-pack through fractions in :28.1, :58.2, and 1:28.2 before maneuvering in the stretch to a 1-1/2 length win in 1:56.4 over Casanova (Michael Hennessy) and Smokn Joe (Giesbrecht). Lambert owns the Lambretta-Reimburse sophomore colt with Catellier Bros Inc. He paid $5.40 to win.
For his next two winner's circle appearances, Campbell met two more of his trainees to give him a training hat trick on the card.
Ponggo followed a pocket trip through panels set by Hf Thegreatpumpkin (David Kelly) in :27.4, :56.1, and 1:24.4 before scooting to a one length victory in 1:53.4 off a last quarter in :28.3. Hf Thegreatpumpkin finished second and Dubai Seelster (Giesbrecht) rounded out the top three.
Owned by Raymond Henry, the Mystician-Skade gelding earned his seventh win of the season and 12th career win. He paid $21.40 to win.
Agricola was the pacesetter in his class and after controlling the tempo with fractions in :28.3, :58, and 1:26.4, he kept on going to win by 1-3/4 lengths in a final time of 1:56. Grampian Road (Giesbrecht) was second and Teddy Hanover (Jamie Gray) took the show spot.
Breeders Gilles Gobeil and Sandra Williams co-own the five-year-old gelding for his second win this year and fourth lifetime win. He paid $14.30 to win.
Campbell added a sixth victory in the tenth race with Brinsley Brooking Lutz trainee Electric Amadeus. Lutz co-owns the mare with Harvey Jaeger for her seventh win of 2023 and 15th career win.
Through panels in :29, :56.2, and 1:25, Electric Amadeus spent most of the race from the far back of the pack before kicking into high gear in the final turn. Picking off her opponents one-by-one, the Rockin Amadeus mare swept the field to win by 2-1/4 lengths in 1:55.1. Outlaw Gunsablazin (Giesbrecht) finished second and Blue Powder (Jean Francois Gagne) was third. Electric Amadeus paid $6.40 to win.
With a bookend win in the card finale, Campbell secured his seventh driving win and fourth training win to dominate the card.
Four-year-old Metaki drew into the race as post 10 and raced from the back of the pack through the first two panels in :28.4 and half in :57.4 before moving to the outside en route to the three-quarters in 1:26.1. Campbell found an opening down the lane to break free and sprint to a blanket finish. Metaki won in a photo finish 1:55.1 over Past Affair (Kelly) and Iris Seelster (Sobey).
Owned by Jodi Loftus, Metaki made her ninth trip to the winner's circle this season. Her 16th career tally, she moved her bankroll to $127,683. She paid $3.40 to win.
