First Training Win For McCool

Trainer Lynn McCool recorded her first career training victory on Saturday, Sept. 13 at Kawartha Downs with a super performance by Baga Cash.

Baga Cash never saw the pylons and was on the first-over grind through :27.3, :57.2 and 1:27 fractions set by Beth (Nick Boyd) to his inside. Baga Cash faltered briefly on the final turn, but he re-rallied and had enough in the tank to battle past Beth and hold off the surging Dream Of Jeannie (David Ahern) by a head to triumph in 1:58.3. Beth finished third.

The win came in Baga Cash’s third start for McCool. It was the four-year-old Shadow Play-Bagaholic gelding’s fifth career victory in 37 starts. He paid $16.30 to win.

It was fitting that McCool’s win came at Kawartha Downs, where she made her training debut 33 years ago in 1992. She returned to training last month, finishing second on Aug. 30 with Baga Cash, after more than two decades away. The Peterborough, Ont. resident now holds a record of 10-1-1-0. She co-owns Baga Cash with Jeanette McIlmoyle.

Iamthat Special chased down a loose leader to break her maiden in the fastest of three $8,000 Prospect Series Leg 5A divisions for rookie trotters. Paul Walker drove and trained the Muscle Mass-I Am Special miss to victory in the first distaff split for Keith Coulter.

Acefortyfour Magic ($20) got every call in the lone Prospect Series contest for males to score in 2:00.2. The Il Sogno Dream-Brydown Magic Haul colt is owned, trained, and driven by George Ketros.

Life Is Great ($5.30) won her fourth straight leg of the Prospect Series in the second filly contest in 2:03 with Paul MacKenzie manning the lines. Blake MacIntosh conditions the Resolve-Life Class filly and co-owns her with Hutt Racing Stable and Tim Klemencic.
