Freshmen Parade As ATSS Hits EPR

It was the two-year-old Atlantic Sires Stakes colts and fillies time to shine Tuesday at Exhibition Park Raceway

. It was the first time this season that the Saint John, NB track hosted an Atlantic Sires Stakes event and the fillies and colts did not disappoint racing fans.

The two-year-old pacing colts performed in three “A” division events for a purse pool of $9,540 each.

Island Redemption and driver Gilles Barrieau won the first event in a time of 2:01 for owners Alfred Barrieau of Dieppe, NB, and Kelly Barrieau and Michael Clinton of Saint John, NB. Student Loan took second and third went to Island Dominator.

Dr Alexander B, with driver Shane Bernard holding the lines, won the next heat in a time of 2:00.3 for owner Paul Doyle of Charlottetown, PEI. Second place went to Putnams Force and third to Elm Grove Emerson.

The final “A” division of colts was won by Allbentouttashape and driver Kenny Arsenault in the fastest time of the night - 1:59.3 - for owners the Dooley Boys Racing Stable of Halifax, NS. Mr Salming finished second and third place went to Freddy My Boy.

East Coast Yankee and driver Mike Stevenson won the only $2,500 “B” division of pacing colts in a time of 2:06.

Meanwhile, the two-year-old pacing fillies went in two $13,260 “A” divisions with We B Success and driver Clare MacDonald winning the first event for owners Riley Farms and Earith Riley of Summerside, PEI, in a time of 2:05.1. Second place went to C H Yocoohno and third went to Seawind Allegra.

Meridian Magic, with Kenny Arsenault in the bike, won the second “A” division event in a time of 2:00.4 for owners Barry Martin and James Gillis of Sydney, NS. Second place honours went to J J Solara and third place went to Putnams Dough Girl.

The lone $2,500 “B” division of pacing fillies was won by Woodmere Sandollar and driver Stephen Trites in a time of 2:04.2.

Atlantic Sires Stakes racing action continues at Exhibition Park Raceway on Saturday when the there-year-old pacing colts meet at the Saint John oval.

Points earned in each Atlantic Sires Stakes “A” division event go towards earning a spot in the season-ending Atlantic Breeders Crown Championship, which will take place this year on Prince Edward Island October 10 and 11.
