Trot Insider has learned that Well Said will bypass this Saturday’s Oliver Wendell Holmes Stakes at The Meadowlands in order to prepare for a trip to Chester Downs on Sunday, August 16 for the Battle of Brandywine
.
The three-year-old son of Western Hanover-Must See, who staked claim to this year’s $1.5 million Pepsi North America Cup and the $1 million Meadowlands Pace, wasn’t himself in last Saturday’s final of the Adios Stake at The Meadows.
“He wasn’t at his best on Adios day,” said Mike Snyder, whose father, Jeffrey, co-owns the superstar pacer with Lothlorien, the nom-de-racecourse of Susan Grange. “He had an electrolyte problem that day, but Steve [trainer Steve Elliott] and Toni [assistant trainer] can freshen him up.”
Well Said blew away the foes he faced with a 1:49 score in his Adios elimination on July 24, but he faded to finish third one week later in the Adios final after leading the field through middle splits of :53.3 and 1:21.
Well Said has visited the winner’s circle in six of his eight starts this season while banking more than $1.4 million in the process. His career earnings recently surpassed the $2 million mark.
A group of 11 sophomore pacers will head to the gate in one $228,500 division of the Oliver Wendell Holmes, set for Race 14 as part of Saturday's mega-card of racing at the Meadowlands.
