The debate in Kentucky regarding the legality of 'instant racing' machines will take place in the state's Supreme Court this week, beginning on Wednesday.
As a report by The Courier-Journal explains that the Kentucky Supreme Court will rule as to whether or not the machines are legal in the state.
Instant racing machines, which offer wagering on 'historical racing,' are slots-like machines that allow gamblers to bet on previously-run or 'historical' horse races.
Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear is a supporter of instant racing machines.
“Hopefully the courts are going to uphold it (Instant Racing) so that we can at least create some additional revenue for our tracks and our purses and get us on a little better level playing field with the other states,” Gov. Beshear was quoted as saying.
Instant racing machines are currently up and running at a pair of Kentucky tracks, and other raceways are considering housing them if they are deemed legal by the state's Supreme Court.
The article explains that the court will be considering whether a lower court that had previously deemed the machines as legal made an error in its judgement.
