Dale Spence put the pedal to the metal early with Casimir Richie P in Trial 2 for this year’s Guardian Gold Cup & Saucer at the Charlottetown Driving Park, and the Dr. Ian Moore trainee kept on rolling en route to posting a dazzling victory in 1:51.2.
Sent off as the 1-5 favourite in the $12,500 contest, Casimir Richie P wasted no time rocketing his way to the lead, and once he got there it was game over for the others.
Casimir Richie P powered through fractions of :27.4, :56.1 and 1:24.1 before unleashing a :27.1 final frame that helped propel him to the win by 2-1/2 lengths over Rose Run Quest. Woodmere Ideal Art was third best, with fourth prize going to Lisburn.
Dr. Ian Moore shares ownership on the five-year-old son of Astronomical-Casimir Hugs with Michael Goldberg of Toronto, Ont. The win improved the pacer’s 2020 record to 2-3-3 from nine starts. The 18-time winner has banked over $320,000 in his career.
The undercard featured a set of $14,360 ‘A’ divisions of Atlantic Sires Stakes for three-year-old pacing colts and geldings, and the opening division went to a rallying Woodmere Rollnpop in 1:55.4.
Trainer/driver Clare MacDonald got away fourth with the gelding while Windemere Frank shot to the lead and laid down fractions of :28.3, :57.4 and 1:27.2. Woodmere Rollnpop, who was then treated to a second over trip by MacDonald, kicked off cover late and fired home in :27.4 to win by a half-length margin over race favourite Windemere Frank. Windemere Ryan was third.
Morah Kerr and Phonsie Maceachern share ownership on the son of Rollwithitharry-Shadow Dancer who visited victory lane for the second time on the season. The 10-time winner has banked over $60,000 to date.
Tobins Rebel led at every call en route to capturing the second ‘A’ division in a time of 1:55.2 for trainer/driver Gilles Barrieau.
The son of Camystic-Eggs Panedict chopped out fractions of :28.2, :57.3 and 1:26.2 before using a :29-second kicker to win by a length over The Big Chase. Even-money favourite Harry G put up a good fight from first over and wound up finishing third.
Daniel Ross of Belfast, PE owns the gelding who pushed his winning streak to four-in-a-row. He’s won five of seven this season and 11 of 15 to date. He’s now banked in excess of $70,000.
J J Austin captured the first of two $2,500 ‘B’ divisions for the three-year-old pacing colts and geldings, and he did so in front-stepping fashion for driver Dale Spence.
The gelding was fourth and parked at the quarter pole before marching to the lead. Once he took over he carved out middle panels of :58.3 and 1:28 before using a :30.1 closing panel to seal the deal by three-quarters of a length over Rest Assured in 1:58.1. Race favourite J J Patrick was third.
Sent off at odds of 14-1, the son of Image Of Dawn-Fritzel Hanover improved his 2020 record to 2-1-1 from nine attempts for co-owner/trainer Randy Phillips and partner Matthew Phillips.
Egamer went wire-to-wire in the second ‘B’ division for driver Kenny Arsenault.
The son of Camystic-Promise Me Hanover stepped off fractions of :28.2, :58.2 and 1:29.1 before using a :29.3 final frame to win by a pair of lengths over Notyourtypicalman in 1:58.4. Third prize went to Maliciousdelicious.
Sent off as the 7-5 favourite, the gelding won for the second time this season from nine attempts for trainer/co-owner Garth Cole and partner Hailey Cole.
Woodmere Chella went to the front and didn’t look back in the 2020 Confederation Mares Invitational Series for driver Dale Spence.
The five-year-old daughter of Articulator-Oh Pretty Leigh whacked out panels of :27.4, :56.1 and 1:25.2 before kicking home in :29 to win by 1-3/4 lengths over Sophist in 1:54.2. Lyons Jennielee took home the show dough in the $3,000 affair.
Valleygrove Farms of Kensington, PE owns the mare who hangs her harness bag in the barn of trainer Marvyn Webster. The 14-time winner has banked over $50,000 to date.
