“We can’t just do these things for Grand Circuit Week, we need to do it every single race day. It can’t be the same old meat and potatoes and expect it to be successful when you’re competing with such a wide entertainment market. That’s what we need to treat it as. I think this week proved it can be done we just have to keep it going.”
Atlantic Grand Circuit Week wrapped up at Truro Raceway on Sunday, July 28 with increased wagering and attendance numbers on key dates, according to a report by the Truro Daily News.
The article contains quotes from Robyn Crowe, a member of the Truro Harness Horse Owners Association’s Ways and Means Committee, which organized events surrounding the week-long showcase of racing.
As made clear in her above quote, Crowe believes that there needs to be a consistent push to ensure local harness racing is constantly being publicized and marketed to the general public.
“I think the week has been a real pick-me-up for the people around here,” said Crowe. “I think it’s boosted the morale around here because people have seen that if you put the effort into it then people will come and enjoy it and want to come back.”
According to the report, Truro saw some of the best crowds that it has seen in years. The article states that over 1,000 fans wagered a total of roughly $20,000 on the Saturday card, while roughly 800 fans bet a total of roughly $19,000 on Sunday.
“People were into the races and there was a lot of excitement,” said Crowe. “We’re hoping to keep the momentum going and we’re going to try our best to do that.”

Nova Scotia needs a racetrack
Nova Scotia needs a racetrack in Halifax and has for decades now, it's the only market large enough to feasibly operate a track. Good luck in Truro.
