Less than one week after the New Jersey Gaming, Sports and Entertainment Advisory Commission released its recommendations for the future of gaming in the state, Senator Jennifer Beck has released an open letter
lambasting the lack of consideration for expansion of gaming at the Meadowlands and calling out some of the hypocrisy associated with the decision.
"On the very day the report was released, Harrah's opened table gaming 15 miles across our border in Pennsylvania at Chester Downs," Beck wrote. "Yet the company continues to fight against table gaming at racetracks within New Jersey. Our casinos' interests do not always coincide with the interests of New Jersey citizens, who have come to rely on the income generated by gaming and racing throughout the state."
She went on to state, "This report continues to make the same mistake New Jersey has made for the last decade — viewing Atlantic City in isolation, not just from horse racing, but from the competition in neighboring states. The refusal to acknowledge that convenience gaming is the new gaming model and to continue with this myopic view of Atlantic City as the only gaming game in town will continue to be destructive to both casinos and racetracks."

Before we all give up on New
Before we all give up on New Jersey racing we need to realize that political opinions like Senator Beck exist and that people in New Jersey are smart enough to kick out politicians like Governor Christie before they take the state of New Jersey back to the gaming dark ages.
Glad there's someone in the
Glad there's someone in the state government who's calling it what it is. I hope there are more to jump on board. The days of AC being the only game in town on the east coast are long long gone. A casino at the East Rutherford location ( with a tie in to horse racing like other states around them) makes so much sense. Right outside the big apple......it would be a gold mine....a license to print money!!! The Meadowlands staying open & being restored as the "Mecca" of the game is good for all in the industry. The Big M closes (along with Freehold & Monmouth) it will have a domino effect in the industry. States & provinces will see an opening to maybe close tracks & or reduce funding drastically....sending the money elsewhere? A precedence could be set here?
