Kevin Dillon's first driving victory couldn't have come any easier as the 28-year-old Goulds, Newfoundland horseman put Clever Chloe on top and opened up daylight on the field in the first race Sunday at St. John's Racing & Entertainment Centre.

Making his seventh driving start aboard his own trainee, Dillon and Clever Chloe won by 21 lengths in 2:06.2. The nine-year-old Stargaze Hanover mare, who missed the 2011 racing season, earned her first win in almost three years.

Canadian Mint and trainer-driver Colin Sheppard won the Preferred class later on the card in a career-best 2:01.4. The six-year-old son of Million Dollar Cam converted from the pocket for the mild 5-1 upset. He is now two-for-two on the year for Sheppard, who shares ownership with Chester Russell of Coleys Point South, Nfld.
