Fair racing action was on the docket this past weekend in Manitoba and Quebec. Glenboro in Manitoba hosted two cards of racing, while live action took place at Saint Esprit in Quebec on Saturday.

Ten dashes went postward at Saint Esprit. Matts Phil was the quickest performer during the program, as the five-year-old Shanghai Phil gelding toured the oval in 1:58.4 for driver Mathieu Desrochers. The career winner of 11 races won by three lengths for trainer Guillaume Desrochers.

The card was marred by two incidents.

In the first race, Dolly P V, who was driven by trainer Yves St-Jacques, fell to the track near the end of the race and did not finish. Trot Insider has learned that St-Jacques had wanted to let Photo Taurus go and pass him before the incident occurred (Photo Taurus was parked to Dolly P Vs outside at the time). Trot Insider has learned that Dolly P V ‘choked’ and fell to the track, but that both St-Jacques and the filly were fine and did not suffer any injuries.

The other incident occurred in Race 2. A R Clo, who was driven by trainer Jean Paul Rousse, was involved in an accident in the early stages of the contest and did not finish. Trot Insider has learned that another participant in the race, Victorycari, had veered out in first turn. Due to that, Rousse was ejected from his sulky. Trot Insider has learned that Rousse is okay.

Action at Glenboro kicked off Saturday. The card was highlighted by the Lady Crocus Stakes. For a recap of the card and the stakes, click here.

Racing at Glenboro continued Sunday, as a nine-dash program kept those in attendance entertained. The featured dash on the card was Race 8, an Open event that carried a purse of $1,800. False Advertising was the real deal in the skirmish, as the Betty Manning pupil turned a pocket trip into a nose victory in 1:59.2. Cory Manning was in the race bike for the odds-on score.
