New Brunswick harness driver Todd Trites celebrated his 2,000th career win Sunday at Truro Raceway as he steered five-year-old pacing mare P H Powerful wire-to-wire in the afternoon's fifth race.

Trites, 45, put the daughter of Lis Mara on the lead from post five in the $2,000 claiming race and never looked back, drawing away in the stretch for the 2:00.3 victory. The final margin was three and a half lengths as Emerging Market and Paul Langille closed from the backfield for the runner-up honours.

Trites began his driving career back in 1991 and has competed in over 10,000 races while earning over $3 million in purse earnings.

P H Powerful also provided Hugh MacKay with his 100th training triumph.

While veteran driver Trites made his 2,000th trip to the winner's circle, Nova Scotia reinsman Andrew Campbell made his first.

A belated present occurring just one week after his 27th birthday, Campbell won the 11th race for $2,000 claimers with his own five-year-old pacing mare R Es Sobrina by half a length over Secret Fantasy and Ryan Ellis. She took a new mark of 1:58 with the front-stepping effort.

Campbell earned his first win in just his second drive following a close runner-up finish last weekend.

This week's top pacing class went to repeat winner Likely To Win in 1:56.3 with Ellis tripling up on the card. Adam Merner trains the four-year-old gelding for owners Blenise Young, Lester Campbell and James Gillis.
