It has been reported that the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. has designated both London and Chatham as desired 'gaming zones' under its controversial new approach to gaming modernization

.

The news comes courtesy of a report by CTV, which contains comments from both Western Fair District President and CEO Hugh Mitchell and Chatham-Kent Mayor Randy Hope.

Mitchell was quoted as saying, "It's a natural, I think, for this site (London's Western Fair District) to do some expansion of product offerings."

Hope came across as excited about the prospect of a lucrative gaming expansion within his borders.

"Our responsibility as municipal leaders is to work with private enterprise to, No. 1, create the best economics for the private industry; create the largest employment opportunity that we can; and create a venue that is different than everyone else that would… attract people from the large urban centres to come to the community of Chatham-Kent and get a taste of what we are really all about here."

In other Ontario gaming news, Larry Tanenbaum, the billionaire construction magnate and minority owner of the Toronto Maple Leafs, has joined a growing list of others that have thrown their figurative hats into the ring to become operator of a Toronto casino if it comes to be.

According to a report by The Globe & Mail, Tanenbaum is also partial to a waterfront location. He was quoted as saying, “I’d like it down here somewhere.”

The Globe & Mail states that Tanenbaum joins a growing field of potential competitors, including Toronto buyout firm Onex Corp. and major U.S. players such as Caesars Entertainment and MGM Resorts International.

The OLG spin doctors Godfrey and Phillips cleverly use the word modernization to help sell their idea idea for stand alone casinos.Unfortunately for them these casinos will be low profit operations which will highlight the huge blunder it was to cancel the slots at racetracks. The expense of building new casinos indicate the OLG has no realisation of present construction costs. The majority of the population of Ontario do not want to turn the province into a northern Nevarda despite the dreams of the OLG.The time has come for a U Turn Paul and Rod.

I feel ike I am watching an old gangster movie where the mafia boss is sitting in the coffee shop with the chief of police and neither of them care who sees them. Would it be presumptive of me to ask a PC or NDP to ask during question period about the relationship between Mr. Godfrey ,as the head of the modernization of gaming and the OLG, and Mr Tanenbaum the owner of the most bingo halls in Ontario who happens to be life long buddies and to make it even worst Mr Tanenbaum appears to be openly the front runner for a Toronto casino on the waterfront. Does anyone else in the province feel that the problem with horse racing is not what we do but more about who we know. Helicopters and horse racing have a lot more in common in Ontario than they both begin with the letter H.

It's epidemic (greed and self-interest)!!! Don't stand up for Horsepeople. Don't stand up for a centuries-old industry/sport. Don't stand for what is RIGHT. Stand for greed. Stand to prosper by the loss of many. Stand only for your SELF. THAT'S OKAY - WHEN YOUR 'self' IS GONE 20 YEARS FROM NOW - 10's of THOUSANDS will remember you for what you were ... SELFISH - AND GONE.
