Western Bee In A Shocker

Western Bee was the last horse to the quarter pole but the first to the finish line in Sunday’s $8,700 Fillies & Mares Open at Alberta Downs, and that was music to the ears of the longshot players in attendance

.

Sent off at odds of 41-1 in the eight-horse affair, Western Bee took a lot of air en route to posting the 1:56.4 victory for trainer/driver J.F. Gagne, who had watched the five-year-old daughter of As Promised struggled in some of her recent assignments.

Gagne got away last with Western Bee before picking up three positions while sitting on the outside at the mid-way point in :59.2. Western Bee, who proceeded to press pacesetter Pretty Promised in first-over fashion, was two lengths off the lead while sitting second on the rim with the final quarter still remaining. A :30-second closing panel was more than enough for Western Bee to prevail by 1-1/4 lengths over Pretty Promised, with Jans Rich Girl rounding out the top three finishers.

Ringneck Enterprises Ltd and James Sutherland of Calgary, AB share ownership on the distaffer who now boasts a 4-3-0 record in 15 starts this season. She has stashed away more than $31,000 in earnings this year and close to $108,000 to date.

Western Bee has been going off at ,"OUTRAGEOUS", odds this year. Check out his victories at Fraser Downs. First at the condition level, and then twice at the Fillie & Mare ranks. Shouldn't have gone off at 41-1. A HUGE over-sight on the part of the betting public.
