Despite being subjected to a challenging journey, Mc Taylor dug down deep to captured Tuesday’s $10,500 Fillies & Mares Preferred feature at The Raceway at The Western Fair District.

Trevor Henry got away fourth with Mc Taylor while race favourite Goodbadanddeugly N shot to the top from her assigned Post 7 starting spot. She tore through panels of :27, :57 and 1:25.1 before being overtaken by Mc Taylor, who started pestering the leader as the field headed to the half. Mc Taylor’s :28.4 final quarter earned her narrow triumph over Thatll Be Franny. Driving Miss Deo, who was last at the quarter pole, rallied late to finish third. The 1:54 performance was the nation’s fastest mile of the season by an older pacing mare on a half-mile track.

Richard Moreau trains the six-year-old homebred for the Estate of Daniel J McCann of Parkhill, ON. The daughter of Camluck-Debutante Willvan, who now owns a 5-3-1 record from 15 starts this season, is a 22-time winner with a career bankroll in excess of $270,000.

The majority of the betting public liked the chances of Ostinato in Tuesday’s $8,400 Preferred 2, and the mare didn’t disappoint her backers. The seven-year-old daughter of Western Terror-Rojens Patriot came first-over and drew clear to win the eight-mare affair by a one-length margin in 1:55.1 for driver Doug McNair. Putnam Mackenzie was next best, with Rachel Olivia taking home third prize.

Trainer Jason McGinnis co-owns the distaffer with Jeff Wellwood of Toronto, ON. It was the second win of the season for the 23-time winner, who boosted her overall cash stash to $242,186.

In the $5,600 Fillies & Mares Preferred 3, Misty Moonstone was hustled to the lead and she didn’t look back en route to a 1:55 triumph for driver Trevor Henry. Sent off as the even-money favourite, the six-year-old daughter of Astreos-Access Hollywood charged through fractions of :26.4, :55.3 and 1:25 before cruising home in :30-second clip to post the win by 5-1/4 lengths over Pathmarks. The bronze medal went to Show Girl.

Donald and Heather McGregor of Camlachie, ON own the winner of $365,055. It was the first score of the season for the 23-time winner.
