On Saturday, March 29 during the Prince County Horsemen's Club's annual awards banquet, the club’s incoming president, Terry Murphy, discussed some of the initiatives that the club is working on in an effort to maintain and improve racing at Summerside Raceway.
An article by the Journal Pioneer explains, Murphy described the complex at Red Shores’ Summerside as “one of the best in eastern Canada.”
Murphy stated that proactive measures must be utilized to ensure sustainability, and explained that the PCHC is working on a plan to increase race dates and expand stabling to 50 new stalls. The report also cites Murphy as discussing future management of the complex, separate from the racing oval. Murphy also discussed the possibility of improving equine training and therapy facilities.
According to the report, Wes Sheridan, provincial finance minister and minister responsible for the Harness Racing Commission, promised to continue to work with the PCHC, starting with repairs to the racing oval and supporting the decisions made to ensure viable and profitable racing dates.
