Driver Brett Beckwith achieved a record feat for the second time in his career at Saratoga Casino Hotel on Monday, March 24.
Beckwith was the Monday matinee's sulky star as he drove eight winners on the 13-race card, tying the all-time track record for wins by a driver in a single card. The record was set by Frank Coppola Jr., the winningest driver in track history, who piloted eight winners on a Sunday afternoon in November 2008. Beckwith, the 2024 U.S. Rising Star Award recipient, had previously equalled this record on July 13, 2024.
Beckwith scored victories in eight races for five different trainers. His wins included But Why ($4.50) for Scott Mongeon, Enhance Your Calm N ($7.20) for Michael Eaton, Novel ($3.70) for Gary Levine, Secret Or Not ($3.80) for James McAssey and Pappy Go Go ($4.30) for Jesse McAssey. He also capped a training triple for his mother Melissa Beckwith, winning with Four Sixes ($2.50), Ikon Vang DK ($3.30) and Fly Delta ($2.50).
Canadian driver Aaron Byron scored a major upset in the featured $21,429 Open Handicap Trot with In A Tiny Way ($73.50), a six-year-old mare by Conway Hall out of Mc Tinys Hope, winning by a nose in 1:57.2. Andy Gardner trains the trotter for Ellen McNeil of Vernon Center, New York.
Live harness racing continues on Tuesday, March 25 with a 12 p.m. start to the matinee.
