Prior to Monday night's card at Woodbine Racetrack, pinch-hitting racecaller Dawn Lupul was lamenting calling the name of a certain horse in the first race. As it turns out, that horse would be prominent in the finish.
Four-year-old homebred trotting mare Domedomedome went the mile of her life on Monday night, to the chagrin of Lupul who had to call the mare's stretch rally. Guided by trainer Jack Moiseyev, Domedomedome hit the wire first in a lifetime best 1:58.3.
Lupul, subbing for a vacationing Ken Middleton, took to twitter after the race call, joking: "I feel like I need to go home and have a shower now."
Joanne Colville of Moffat, Ont. bred and owns Domedomedome (Deweycheatumnhowe - Mojo N The Morning), now three-for-four in 2015 after winning her last two starts at Flamboro Downs.
The Jackpot Hi-5 continues to climb as none of the winning tickets on the wager were single tickets. The carryover going into Thursday's card is $474,137.68.

While I wasn't a huge fan
While I wasn't a huge fan originally, in a very short time, Dawn has developed a style that will have her as a top announcer real soon. The progress is going great as you can see she is getting more comfortable with race calling. The fact she isn't just listing position and lengths but tossing in adjectives describing the horse or driver's situation combined with articulate narration of action just behind the leaders in the stretch, she won't hurt Woodbine's broadcast.
Too many tracks in the US are best watched with the sound off. Either boring as can be or wayyyyyyyyyy over the top.
I hope her progression continues at the rate it is.
