The Lucien Bombardier Stakes and the Roger White Stakes haven't been contested since 2008, but during Standardbred Canada's board meeting in January, it was approved that the events will go postward this season
at Hippodrome de Quebec. Quebec Jockey Club General Manager Vincent Trudel has provided his comments on the situation.
The $15,000 A events for the juvenile fillies have been scheduled for early September. Each stakes race will have eliminations contested on Saturday, September 3. The finals are scheduled to take place Saturday, September 10.
The young trotters will strut their stuff in the Roger White, while the pacing distaffers will flash their speed in the Lucien Bombardier. Standardbred Canada and the Quebec Jockey Club are co-sponsoring the stakes, which will be the highlight of Hippodrome de Quebec's 20-day race meet.
"We have appreciated the support from Standardbred Canada to provide sponsorship to help us re-launch in 2011 two stakes which have been very popular with Quebec Racing fans: the Roger White and the Lucien Bombardier," Trudel told Trot Insider.
"These events will help us to get the message out that Standardbred racing is back in Quebec, and that 20 programs of good quality racing -- including Quebec-sired series for two, three, and four/five-year olds -- will be presented at the Hippodrome in Quebec City from June to September, 2011."
Standardbred Canada would like to inform all horsepeople that it has mailed out payment notices. The notices indicate that the nomination payments for the stakes are due April 15, 2011.
