Sunday evening’s twelfth race at Windsor Raceway was marred by a two-horse accident which took place as the field was preparing to move in front of the grandstand
for the first time.
Fox Valley Azure, who was sitting fifth on the rail, made a break in the turn and galloped at least eighteen times without going into the safety lane. The pacer eventually fell, and when he did driver Nick Steward was unseated. The sulky of the fallen horse hooked onto the sulky of the trailing horse, Most Wanted Benka, and as a result driver David Clark was catapulted out of his sulky. Clark was slammed to the track, but he held the lines while being dragged before eventually letting go.
Trot Insider has learned that Clark suffered a serious leg injury and was transported to hospital. Most Wanted Benka was apprehended after running loose and came out of the accident unscathed. Driver Nick Steward was uninjured as a result of the spill, but Fox Valley Azure suffered a number of cuts and abrasions from the fall.
Trot Insider will post additional details when more information becomes available.

Thank-you to all fellow horsemen for all their well wishes.
I would like to say that I believe there should be more checking into Nick's race bike than his actions. I have never seen a race bike snap and fly out sideways like his did. I think if the bike broken the usual way ,not flying sideways I would have driven right past him without incident. Just some food for thought from the guy laying in a hospital bed with lots of time to think.
