Driver Jim Morrill, Jr. has been handed a 270-day suspension by the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission as a result of failing to take a breathalyzer test and for attempting to drive in an unfit condition

at the The Red Mile last October.

Morrill failed to take a breathalyzer test before driving in the third race at The Red Mile on October 23, 2010. He finished third in that race – a $121,500 division of the Bluegrass Stakes – with the three-year-old trotter Winning Fireworks.

Judges ordered him off a scheduled drive in that afternoon’s sixth race because he was unfit to drive, and he refused to submit a breathalyzer test at that point.

As a result, Morrill has been suspended 270 days and must appear before the license review board of The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission. While under suspension, Morrill is denied access to all areas under the jurisdiction of the KHRC.

The Hamburg, NY reinsman has reined in 4,923 winners in his career, banking in excess of $68 million in the process.

Why would this negatively affect the image of harness racing? There are people in all sports and jobs that have drug and alcohol problems. Kudos to the folks in Kentucky to suspend Jim as they did. It is a positve, in my eyes, that the industry has recognized Jim's problem, and penalized him for it, before it becomes a larger issue.

Just to refresh your memories jim morril was one of the drivers who was involved in that race fixing incident at freehold a few years back along with howard parker and george brennan, these guys dont learn.Throw the book at him

I guess where there is smoke ...there is usually fire...It seems to me that he has had a reason to move from track to track on a regular basis...Maybe the reasons are just now starting to come out..Sad..........But True!!

Why is it that so many people with enormous amounts of talent waste it?
