After winning three races at Flamboro Downs earlier this afternoon, including a sweep of the late Daily Double, driver Billy Davis Jr. headed over to Western Fair Raceway to sweep another late Double with Preferred winners Ostinato and Power Shot
.
Davis Jr. won the seventh race at Flamboro with Spectacular Link ($38.90) for trainer Shawn Robinson before capping off the program with victories aboard Ruff Stuff Jackson ($11.60) for John Bond and River Card ($3.50) for Travis Umphrey. The first 'Davis Double' of the day paid $21.30.
At Western Fair, Davis Jr. sent Ostinato ($15.30) three-wide from the back of the pack past the third quarter mark and wore down favourite Chief Karen (Doug McNair) in the $12,600 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace. The five-year-old Western Terror-Rojens Patriot mare, trained and co-owned by Jason McGinnis along with Jeff Wellwood of Toronto, prevailed by half a length in 1:59.2 over a track rated “good” and three seconds off. Grandma Dorothy (Greg Dustin) finished third. The win was Ostinato’s second (consecutive) from five seasonal starts.
Power Shot ($5.90) then journeyed first over to prevail in the $14,800 Preferred Trot for Davis Jr. The seven-year-old Via Blaze-Lizardskin gelding stopped the clock in 2:00.3, winning by one and a half lengths over Long Ago (Bruce Richardson) and Big Changes (Greg Dustin) for trainer Richard Moreau and owner Keith Cassell of Smiths Falls, Ont. The victory was Power Shot’s first of the season in three outings.
London's 'Davis Double' paid $46.50.
