It has been reported that Joseph Bryce, the chief legislative officer for Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley, has gone on the record as saying that the Preakness is "safe" in terms of it being held in the state. Everything else is, seemingly, up in the air
.
According to an article by the Baltimore Sun, Bryce's comments came after a closed-door, three-hour meeting Monday, December 6 at the State House.
Bryce reportedly did not go into detail in regard to the talks surrounding 2011 thoroughbred race dates in the state. There are supposed to be more meetings regarding 2011 dates next week.
"We need to work through the details on how to create a sustainable industry," Bryce was quoted as saying. "The track owners have no interest in not running the Preakness."
