Retromedia Publishing of Charlottetown, PEI has just learned from Indigo in Charlottetown that its latest book release Behind The Gate by Paul Murphy is one of the two most popular books for sale in the province this Christmas season.
The book focuses on harness racing individuals and families, at the star and grassroots levels in Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. It goes back in content to the turn of the last century, and takes us forward to the present day. It includes a profile on Summerside's Dr.Ian Moore bringing his personal history right up to Shadow Play's win in this year's Little Brown Jug, Nova Scotia's Clare MacDonald, the top female driver in Canadian harness racing history, PEI's native son Wally Hennessey and his great career including the great Moni Maker and New Brunswick's star driver Gilles Barrieau. Somehow, Somebeachsomewhere slipped into the book.
This book and harness racing are the 'talk of the town' on PEI with a quick second printing going into effect immediately. The book sold close to 150 copies at the launch this past Thursday where a crowd of 175 people came to the Charlottetown Driving Park Entertainment Centre to hear about it. Another 100 or so books were sold there at the races on Saturday. After only four days, the book is sold out now in its first printing with a few copies still available here, but more are on the way.
