When the 2008 racing season wraps up tonight at Woodbine Racetrack, at least two new faces will finish atop the driver and trainer standings.
On the driver's side, 2007 O'Brien Award winner Jody Jamieson is poised to capture his first WEG Driver's title. The Cambridge resident, who was the runner-up last season behind Mark MacDonald, enters the final program with 282 wins.
Jamieson sits 23 wins ahead of nearest competitor Rick Zeron, who sits with 259. Randy Waples occupies the number three spot with 247 victories to his credit.
Jamieson has once again been selected as a finalist for this year's O'Brien Award as he goes up against Paul MacDonell for a second consecutive year.
The WEG Trainer's race will go right down to the wire with Ben Baillargeon and Rob Fellows deadlocked at 95 wins each going into the last night of racing. The veteran conditioners are both in search of their first WEG title.
Baillargeon may have the upper hand with four starters scheduled to go postward Monday night. Fellows will send out two performers from his stable.
Defending champion Casie Coleman, who is once again an O'Brien Award finalist, sits third going into the final night with 80 winners to her credit this season.
First post on Monday night will be 7:20 p.m. and fans are reminded that Race Night On The Score will not be seen this week and returns next Monday, January 5 at the regular time of 7:00 p.m.
