It has been reported that a deal which will see live thoroughbred racing in 2011 in the State of Maryland was agreed upon after a meeting this morning
between the Maryland Jockey Club, Maryland Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association, Maryland Horse Breeders Association and Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley.
The Sports Network has reported that the Maryland Jockey Club will hold 146 days of racing at Laurel Park and Pimlico Race Course, and that the Preakness Stakes will take place Saturday, May 21.
The article explains that under the agreement -- which the Maryland Racing Commission has to approve -- the horsemen's association will contribute $1.7 million to track operations and the state will transfer between $3 million and $4 million from the state's slot machine program for track improvements.
